Spring and Summer Lovely Clusters

Its time again for the seasonal Lovely Clusters online catalog, and I was excited to find that my work has again been featured, this time on the Grapefruit and Carnation color palette pages.

I was so inspired flipping through the pages of the catalog, after a long day and with the kids finally in bed it was just thing to rest my thoughts and let my mind soar. For a beautiful burst of spring and summer time color you can check out the catalog right here.

A new feature this time, and one of my favorite things about looking through the catalog is the new section that is curated by stylish and creative Etsy sellers,

Each one like a little dream!

Enjoy!

Cleaning up

The other day I received a call from a woman that I met during our Open Studio Tour last October. She is a prop stylist for Seventeen Magazine, and she wanted to use some of my art in a bedroom photo shoot, the catch was that they needed the pieces by that afternoon so I only had a few hours to get everything ready. With all of my focus on getting our house fixed up I have been ignoring a huge problem, that my studio had gotten out of control. Here is how it looked,

And here was my desk,

Yikes! For me a certain amount of creative mess happens as I work, and that is just how I like it, but there is a fine line and I usually know that I've crossed it when I can't find things and the mess starts to hamper my ability to make my art. Then I've gone from creative mess to crazy mess, not good. As I was getting the pieces ready for the magazine shoot I had to face facts, a studio clean up was in order. Yesterday, was the "big dig", I was able to throw out a bunch of things (made easier by the fact that I've been going through a lot of our stuff lately, so now I'm becoming an old pro at letting go of things I don't use). I also moved a lot of the things that I don't use often, but still want access to, onto lower shelves or into boxes that I put in our closet where I can still grab them easily. Here is how things look after the clean up,

So much better, I feel like I can breathe again. I covered up the printer and the lower shelves with some pretty fabric, this simplifies things for me mentally and helps me to focus. Here is my desk after, with all of my supplies laid out where I can see them,

Here are the shelves that I organized with the supplies for printing and shipping my prints and cards for my shop, along with visual inspiration files that I turn to when I need a little visual or creative pep-up,

Here's the view out of my studio window today, it is snowing again. That stack of take-out trays on the window sill are my favorite painting palettes, they are ready and waiting next to my pad of paper where I jot down ideas as they come to me. Also on the window sill I keep a small altar of things that I've collected in nature or that have been given to me by dear friends that inspire me. Its so pretty I think I'll do it justice with a better picture in a different post,

Despite the mess, my pieces made it over to the Seventeen Magazine photo shoot in time. My contact there told me that they were featured in a bedroom shot and a desk shot. If all goes well (and they don't end up on the cutting room floor) then my work will be featured in the April issue of Seventeen, which will be in newstands at the end of March. I'll keep you posted with more details.

I must say that the kid in me is feeling giddy about being featured in Seventeen, even though I haven't read that magazine for over a decade, I was a faithful subscriber all through middle school and high school, getting excited every time my issue would arrive. I was even picked to model in a Seventeen Magazine runway show, when I was 17, but that's another story.

A Catalog and an Interview

The Lovely Clusters fall catalog came out today, oh my goodness, it is full of loveliness! Such talented artists, such gorgeous details.
I'm so excited that my paintings are featured on both the Multicolored page and on the Purple page.

There is such a soft, feminine aesthetic to the catalog that I love, I'm so honored to be included!

I am also absolutely thrilled to share with you that I am featured over at the lovely Dana Barbieri's blog today as part of her Art Biz Mamas interview series in which she asks creative mamas to share their secrets for making their art, while also being responsible for a home and family.
This interview was so rewarding to do, as her questions led me down a mental path that I'm still working my way through in an introspective way. She really helped me to evaluate where I'm going with this online adventure, how being a mother has changed my work, and especially how far I've come, from being a new mama six years ago trying to make sense of my life with kids!
You can check out the interview here, and I'd love to hear what you think. Maybe we can start a dialogue about how others of you make your work while also managing your little ones and your home? Right now, I'm typing this as I am letting the stove heat up to make dinner....so there you go, it is all about doing things where they fit in for me! Enjoy!

Pure Green Living

I woke up this morning to find that my painting Message was featured in Pure Green Living Magazine, via Lovely Clusters. What a treat, and just glancing through the magazine I can tell that I'm going to have to go back and spend some time with a cup of tea there. The aesthetic and inspiration of Pure Green Living's stylish eco-living is so appealing.

Plus on the page after my painting was featured I found this quote:

"If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it"
-Toni Morrison

Love it!

Milestone and a Sale!

Meditation

On Monday I made the 100th sale in my Etsy shop! Yeay! This was a goal that I had set for 2010, and having made it there in May really makes me happy, and it is less than a year since I started selling my prints on Etsy! To share my joy with you I am having my very first Etsy shop sale!
From today through next Wednesday, I will be offering a buy one get one free sale on all of my $20 prints. Yes, buy one and I'll send you another print of your choice for free, just let me know what you'd like your second print to be at check-out.
I am also really excited to put prints of my painting Meditation up in my shop today for the first time. This is one of my all time favorite paintings, it has a prominent spot on our kitchen wall. I know I've mentioned it on the blog before and included it in this post about our home. There is something about the layers of this painting that I can get lost in, there is a depth and sort of a wild, fiery life to it.

I also wanted to let you know that my paintings have recently been featured in a few really wonderful Etsy treasuries full of lovely work, you can check them out here:
In Full Bloom
Spring Frost
Lotus Flower Blessing
Shamaness Enchantment

Enjoy!

Thrills and Surprises

One of my favorite things about having my kids along with me is the way that small moments become big ones. Things that I wouldn't notice myself take on a special thrill and I get to see it all through their eyes. The other day we had such fun taking the subway, that instant when the train burst into the station was so captivating and electric for them.

Yesterday I had my own surprise, which I took a little thrill from too. I noticed around mid-day that my Etsy shop had about 50 new Hearts on it, and there were a couple of back-to-back sales. It all was explained when I found out that I was featured as part of the Etsy take 5 Tuesday over on the amazing design blog decor8, you can check it out here.

I am seriously craving all of the jewelry by the artist that is featured after me! Those gold dipped crystals are just amazing. Boys, pay attention.

Honestly Art

I just found out that I was listed as artist of the day over at Honestly Art. This is a wonderful website where blogger Kate Singleton is doing a great job of making contemporary art more accessible by reviewing and listing contemporary artists almost daily. This is a real "eye candy" website with so many great images of artist work to inspire creativity! Here is the listing about me!

Artist of the day: Faith Evans-Sills

Faith Evans-Sills is a local (Brooklyn-based) artist who grew up in rural Pennsylvania and Argentina. She’s been showing in galleries around the Northeast, including A.I.R. gallery and Art Gotham, and Europe since 1995 when she graduated from Skidmore. She went on to receive her MFA from Parsons in 2002.

Evans-Sills work brings a healthy mix of beauty and drama. Although she uses prevalent symbols, such as the lotus flower and butterflies, that can easily read as saccharin, Evans-Sills manages to create art that feels beautiful and intriguing, not trite or overdone. She achieves this by creating layers of color and darkness, elements of nature and abstractions, the ephemeral and the permanent.
