New Postcard Sets

In preparation for the upcoming holiday season I've updated the postcards sets in my shop. This is always fun for me as I enjoy thinking about what themes run throughout my work and what sets I can create around those themes.

This year I have created the Enigma Set, above. This set is all about mystery and wonder, I love all of those images and I can just see them framed on a wall together!

I've also updated my Deer Set with some new images,

I've created a Butterfly Set, which really was fun to put together as I got to chose some of my absolute favorites out of all of my butterfly pieces,

I updated my Bird Set with some new images,

and as always there is my Lotus Set, one of my favorites, this set makes me feel so calm and happy.

For even more variety I'm also offering a collection of all 30 of my postcards in one complete set, featuring one of each of these cards,

A little silliness

Recently we've enjoyed getting back into doing our family mural projects, where we lay a big paper down on the floor and just go at it all together with pencils, markers and paints. Often now Jasper will be the director, telling us the story of the drawing while we are making it, and telling us who should draw what and where. We are all liking this structure, as with his direction the pieces become like a dialogue and a family story.

This is one of our favorite ways to play as a family, and these sessions can definitely get a little silly,

Here is a recent finished drawing, that the kids immediately wanted hung up on their bedroom wall. The story of this drawing became about our family (see there are the 4 of us) wandering on a path through the woods where we saw lots of animals and then finished our journey at our new house in Charleston....see it there at the end of the path? 

I love the poetry in that story, and how doing these family drawings really helps our family bond and talk about things that are going on in an indirect way, helping all of us to feel safe, secure and together.

New Postcard Sets

Thank you so much for all of your wonderfully supportive comments on my last two posts about our planned move! Your affirmations and responses are so special to me! Amidst all the goings on here I managed to list a few new things in my shop...

I'm crazy about these new postcard sets, they are the same great quality as my original postcard sets, but this time I thought I'd shake things up and offer them in themes, all in sets of six. There is the Deer Set that you see above (with a few wild horses thrown in!). And the Lotus Set,

and the Bird Set,

I don't think I can pick a favorite set, as I had so much fun choosing which images to use in each one, but all are perfect for saving, framing or sharing.

Did you all enjoy 1/11/11 yesterday? There was a moment when I looked at the digital clock in our bathroom and it read 11:11, and that felt very special.

New Light

New Light, acrylic and mixed media on canvas

I've been busy working on a whole bunch of new originals in the studio. I just finished this one and have added her to my shop, here. 

The glow of early autumn and the delicate nuances of new light were the inspiration for this whimsical mixed media painting. 

The gentle deer bends to nibble on a blade of grass, an unguarded moment, the soft beating of butterfly wings rustle the air.

I have been really enjoying drawing with ink on a few of the paintings in progress and I fell in love with this little doe. The painting just felt like it needed the simplicity of the relationship between the butterflies and the deer, when I work on a painting this simple I feel an internal quiet as well. My soul calms, my spirit rests....and that enters into the painting.
Whisper, or you might startle her.

Art Exchange

A few weeks ago I participated in an art exchange. I was excited to see what would come of it, as the idea of passing art out into the world to someone that I didn't know felt like a serendipitous act to me.

Today I received a thank you from the woman that I sent a print to, saying that she loved the art exchange so much that she wanted to send a "Thank You"...which turned out to be her own art response to my print!!! I loved it!

I had sent her a print of my painting Leap, she had photocopied the print and right on top she had written the amazing quote that you see above. The quote was so appropriate to the theme of the painting it is as if she read my mind as I was painting it. Talk about serendipity.

So, can I tell you how intrigued I was...I immediately googled Mary Anne Radmacher and found her inspirational website of beautiful art and quotes of her original writing. She has a line of greeting cards, posters, books and so much more. In fact, her work looks so familiar to me I swear I had a card by her on my wall in college.

I loved everything about this encounter. In her package she also included a piece of her original art with another of her fabulous quotes, this one about Leaves and Feathers:

Both of these pieces are going right into my studio, for inspiration and reflection, I know that they are pieces that will help me when I am in stuck places, I just know it!

Leap

Leap

I'm working on a few new paintings and yesterday held a flurry of studio activity! Thought I'd share this one with you. I have been taking personal "leaps" so far this year, including starting this blog and seeking long overdue closure on an old relationship through making contact with an old flame.
These things have been scary.
These things have been healing and opening, yes, truly opening...as in opening up space in my life (almost magically) for so many new things, new ideas and new opportunities!

Here's to Leaping in whatever direction will open YOU up to new things!
