August break: Stonehenge

Ever since I can remember learning about it I have wanted to visit the ancient stone circle of Stonehenge. I am intrigued by the mysteries about the circle, the fact that it survives from a pre-historic culture now lost to us. The monument was built between 5 and 3 thousand years ago, by different peoples over a very long period of time, the site evolved and its exact purpose remains a mystery. It is aligned with the midsummer sunrise and the midwinter sunset. For me it is a source of inspiration and fascination.
The weather was very dramatic when we visited the site, out in the middle of a huge open hilly plain.
The place has a solemn air to it, it feels like a place for worship and for celebration.

As we walked around the large circle the weather quickly turned, the clouds moved in and we ran for cover as rain began to pour down.
a fitting drama for such a grand spot.

My work and shop just received a wonderful review over at the style blog Does Mommy Love It? They are hosting a give-away of my print Awakening, you can head over here to read the review and enter the give-away!

I dream of visiting Stonehenge too! I've heard it to be one of the wonders of the world where there is an inexplicable "presence" that invokes feelings one cannot necessarily express. How fortunate to be sharing such wonderful adventures with your family!! Enjoy :-)
