Here, in my journal I traced their little hands. Then, I filled the outlines in with little circles in the colors that are their favorites...one such a boy, the other all girl.
I will need these little colored hands, you see, because I am going away for a few days. For the first time. Without my children.
Wow.
I feel very dramatic about it, but also thrilled. A long time ago I used to love to travel alone, but my wheels are rusty...won't that make it an even bigger adventure?! I am flying tomorrow to Los Angeles to visit a dear friend for 5 days where we will bike at the beach, watch the sunset, eat long brunches and generally laugh a lot.
While I'll be checking in here from over on the west coast, I wanted to leave you with a brand new painting that seemed to just happen while I was playing the other night in the studio...

Good luck! I know how you feel, I miss my daughter even if I just run to the store without her sweet little face with me! Once again I am in love with your painting! I needed something cheerful to make me smile today, I got bad news earlier (my husband is deploying again), so thank you for sharing that painting! I have really been loving birds lately too, ever since I bought some little ones for my daughter's garden theme room. Have a safe trip and have LOTS of fun!!
Dear Faith, what a beautiful memento of your children's hands! Wishing you a wonderful time in LA. I'm sure it will be like old times! I also love your delightful new painting with the cute little birds and hearts. Wishing you all the best! :)
Oh how wonderful to be going away with a dear friend! I am sure it will be heartwarming. I love their hands and I love your new painting- wonderful energy!
Oh my, Faith. I am in LOVE with those little birds. So so sweet. Enjoy California with your friend. Sounds like a lovely getaway.
Your little birds are so dreamy! They are very sweet! I hope you will enjoy your time away. I am the same. My daughter is 4 and she has only spent one night away from me in her little life - and that was at her grandparent's with her daddy! My son is 9 and he has only spent a handful of nights away. It is nice to be close while they are small isn't it? However, I too am now planning on going away for a couple of days for a sewing course in a few weeks. I really look forward to it too!
This painting reminds me of 'breath of joy'. And your children's handprints will be so precious in years to come. I wonder what creativity you have passed on to those little hands?
A visit from a fellow unraveller who is just getting caught up on several weeks worth!
I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip to LA . . what a great time of year to go someplace warmer and so beautiful! I wanted to tell you also how much I appreciate your comments about my new painting work. I was needing some insight and encouragement. . so thank you! I like how your paintings often show a sense of freedom . . like your flock of little birds in this darling painting. They do have energy, don't they?! Great title, too . . we must have a little e.s.p. going on because I've got that as a title for something I'm working on, too!
Anyway. . hurry back -- I'm sure I'm not the only one missing your creative and inspirational writings here. : )
Hope your trip to LA works out well! These hands, so full of energy and colour must keep your mind in touch with your kids!
I also wanted to thank you for your inspiring comments in the Together class!
That is so sweet and beautiful! Such a creative little project.
