Lichen

This painting was inspired by lichen, well, part of it was anyway...

My in-law's home in the south of Florida, is surrounded by nature preserves. When we visit a few times a year I always feed my hunger for all things tropical with many walks outside. These pictures where taken at a bird refuge there, with miles of wooden board-walks built over a mangrove swamp teeming with creatures. Imagine my joy when I discovered this lichen growing everywhere on the wooden walkways. Their organic form and color are just dripping with life for me...
....and I just love their place in this new, as yet untitled, painting.

I love the "inspiration/process" path you're on with your posts. My thoughts have been very skewed lately with house renovations taking most of my attention, so I will be looking back at these posts to center myself again and think about making art. AND, I think that is a gorgeous new painting! I'm curious to know about what kind of art you were making at Parsons . . . is it similar, or are you one of those artists who has made a big departure from some other thing altogether? Just curious. : ) There's a strong continuity in your paintings {without being cookie cutter at all or gimmicky, if you know what I mean -- it is fresh and real}. It also strikes me as work that, sure, comes from the heart {many artists can say that}, but really gets at the essence of something powerful and personal for you.

Ooooh! Faith, I LOVE seeing this and where the inspiration comes from. It is a beautiful piece of work. I am interested to see what you decide to title it. I love your titles, and the story behind your art.
