John Darien for Target

John Darien is a fabulous New York decoupage artist who has been making amazing pieces out of antique images for years. Recently, I loved this post over at One Lucky Day, reminding me that the new John Darien line for Target is being released on September 5th! Since that was yesterday, you can count on the fact that I am already planning which pieces I am going to stock up on at such super reasonable prices. I mean really, the trays above are only $12.99 each (can you tell I love the water lilies?), and most of the items are even cheaper than that! Here is another stunner that I have my eye on..

August break: Shopping in London

We took the train into London, to Oxford Circus, where the flagship Topshop store is located.

While the boys went to the Natural History Museum, the girls shopped. I discovered the Topshop store last time I was in London, it is serious shopping nirvana, about 4 floors of it, and a must see for anyone who loves fashion. It is basically a department store that has been edited down to only include the most interesting, fashion forward and modern looks for every style with all of the Topshop collections.

Everything for fall was in, and I fell in love.... I'm sure that my 3 year long search for the perfect boot, and fall jacket, is over.

Soho

This whole week I have a dear friend visiting us here in Brooklyn. We met during the first week of our freshman year of college at Skidmore, and each being art majors from Philadelphia, we became fast friends. After college we both moved to NYC where she got into fashion, most recently she has been working for 7 For All Mankind based out in LA for years. So, it is always a treat when we visit each other, now often with babies in tow!

Yesterday we spent most of the day walking around in Soho, shopping and having lunch, at a yummy cafe that we used to frequent when we lived in Manhattan. We went to the Bloomingdales on Broadway and had some smokey eye make-up done, something that I haven't done for years! There I discovered that this is my new favorite eye liner, seriously good stuff by Laura Mercier, it will be taking me into fall and beyond.
Next stop was Callalilai where I was loving not only the gorgeous fabrics but also the transporting hand painted walls of their flagship store...

Then it was on to AllSaints, a British company with a huge flagship store in Soho with more stunning decor...

They have really flattering long cardigans and I am seriously considering these boots for fall...

But somehow I can't bring myself to start buying cool weather clothes yet, maybe because it is still so beastly hot and humid here!

The window shopping was so inspiring, and we had such fun just wandering around the cobbled Soho streets. We both have so many memories here, and Soho has changed so much from the art district that it was in the late 1990's when we moved here. I had my first after college job here then, right on Broadway at a non-profit gallery called Thread Waxing Space. Where I mostly did mailings and answered phones!
It is fun in Soho to see how over-the-top some stores go with their decor to attract shoppers, it is always interesting and inspiring, and there is such a deer theme going on these days everywhere...

We also visited the Calypso outlet store, a stop that I never miss when I am in Soho. It is the Calypso tropical chic aesthetic but all discounted, I have gotten so many amazing pieces there over the years. All in all we had a fun, exhausting, day spent with friends. One of those days that reminds me to appreciate this amazing city in a whole new way.

Out and About in Brooklyn

7th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn

I love Brooklyn in the springtime, it feels like everything is waking up and everyone has a spring in their step.
Tomorrow, Saturday the 24th, I'll be selling my prints, wood mounted prints and stationary at the Prospect Heights Craft Fair from 11AM to 6PM. I will be sharing a table with my friend Kristin of Pixie Petals who makes the prettiest organic jewelry with lovely beads and hammered metal.
If you are in Brooklyn I'd love it if you'd stop by our booth for a chat and a cup of tea. The Craft Fair will be hosted by P.S. 9 at 80 Underhill Avenue, between St. Marks and Bergen. Directions and lots of other fun information are on the website. The other artists who will be at the fair look really creative, I always find lots of inspiration at craft fairs, seeing what other artists are working on and how they display their work really energizes me.
With all of this sunshine and warmer weather this week, I'm having dreams of sitting out at cafes, planting and spending lots of time in the park in the days to come.

A bed of butterflies

We've arrived here in sunny but chilly Florida, although the cold here is nothing compared to the snow that we left back up north!
The most inspiring thing that I saw yesterday was this amazing installation, a room with that turquoise river snaking through and those delicate white butterflies made of paper fluttering along and over the bed.
It felt so poetic to me, like harnessing a dream.

It was part of a design contest, where each decorator had a "room" with 3 walls in a showroom window, to create an installation to show their design aesthetic. So interesting! Frank and I happened upon this on our annual date to the Miromar outlets near my in-law's home. I look forward to this excursion as some of my favorite shopping for the year, the whole experience is fun plus my in-laws watch the kids so it is like a date!
The mall is designed to look like a European street, which makes it feel festive and sort of transporting.


When we come to Florida in the winter I usually spend the first couple of days feeling like I am coming out of hibernation. Yesterday I found the most perfect hat to help me along though...and warmer days are in the forecast.

My new favorite dress

A tale of shopping is one that I will never tire of, the constant quest for that perfect thing always excites me.
But, suddenly here that thing is....my new favorite dress/tunic/shirt. (Yes, I have worn it for 2 days in a row).
A couple of days ago it appeared on my doorstep after it's long journey from Eastern Europe. I just love Etsy for that, only there could I find LeMuse the maker of this amazing garment thousands of miles away in Vilnius.
I love to dress for comfort, my favorite clothes are ones that make me feel like me at my best when I wear them, and this dress does that for me...I just feel comfortable and uncomplicated.

I love LeMuse's description of her work:
