August break: a studio glimpse and a trip

We arrived today at my family's farm in the blue ridge mountains of Asheville, NC after a two day road trip from NYC that took us through rolling farm land, beautiful mountains and a wild lightening storm. Because of our travels I am late in beginning the August Break, another community created by the wonderful Susannah Conway. For the month of August I will be relaxing my own "rules" that I feel like I have for myself with my blog....I will be posting mostly just photographs, with words or without, really whatever feels right and easy. My focus is going to be on enjoying the trips that we have planned, while also sharing our travels with you here. Our travels are taking us to Asheville, NC first, then back to Brooklyn for a few days before we are off to England until September 2nd. It is going to be an exciting month.
Getting ready to leave Brooklyn was such a whirlwind, (it always is before I leave for a trip!), that I didn't post a studio sneak peak. As I shared last week I have 5 paintings in progress right now despite how busy Frank's work schedule has been and how little time I have had to myself in the studio. In fact at the end of last week, I even gave up trying to have any "alone" studio time and simply moved the things that I was working on to the kitchen table....

Embracing the wild chaos right in the middle of it all...

And Carys, my little artist, was painting right there with me, she loved being a part of what I was working on!

Before we left I was able to finish this as yet untitled painting...

There is a meditative stillness to this one that is amazing to me considering the chaos of my days in which I was painting it, I can feel myself finding refuge in this painting, escaping into it for a quiet moment of mental solitude.
I'll see you back here with glimpses from our mountain adventure ~ here on our August break! xo
